Customer safety is a high priority and we’ve done our best to provide clear signs about protocol to follow while shopping at Applestone. You know the basics by now–wear a mask and use the floor stickers as guidance for remaining 6 feet apart. Hand sanitizer is available for you to use before and after shopping, though we always recommend washing your hands upon returning home.
We do close so that our staff can restock and sanitize our stores multiple times during the day and we ask that you wait patiently while we do this. This is for everyone’s safety! We’ve been really fortunate to have a business model so flexible that we’ve never had to ask our staff to be in direct contact with the greater public during the pandemic. This has brought enormous peace of mind to our team during a time when very little brings peace of mind. We are so grateful for the patience and respect you show to our staff and to one another.
One final note – remember to consider your neighbors and try to avoid bulk buying. There’s enough to go around and arriving at a store that has been fully cleaned out of steaks or chops can be really disappointing. That being said, if you arrive at a store cleaned out of steaks and chops, we encourage you to try something new! Check out our blog for inspiration for cuts spanning our full menu.

This week the Mid-Hudson Region cautiously enters Phase 2 of Covid-19 reopening — a true milestone. We have been deeply fortunate to operate as an essential business during this time, as you know. While many of our beloved local businesses are just opening up again all around us, we wanted to let you know that nothing you’ve grown accustomed to recently at Applestone will change during Phase 2.
Two of our core principles are convenience and accessibility. Our retail model was specifically built to support independent shopping through vending machines. This has now proved more useful than ever. As we have the flexibility to operate without face-to-face contact, we have decided to continue our machine-only service indefinitely at this time. This is incredibly important for the health and safety of our team and our shoppers.
While this means we are unable to accept new online orders, custom orders, or fulfill requests from our freezer, being in machine-only mode helps us remain focused on a 24/7 shopping experience, especially when our customers need it the most. We will continue business as usual behind closed doors, following hygienic food-safe protocols as we always do, and keeping the machines stocked.
We are actually debuting one new thing as we enter Phase 2: clearer signs about customer protocol to follow while shopping at Applestone. We love our new signs, and suspect you will, too. You know the basics by now. As always, wear a mask and only two (2) people should enter the store at a time. Use the markers on the floor to determine 6 feet of distance from one another. Use the hand sanitizer we have made available and make sure to wash your hands when home. Continue to avoid touching your face. If you visit us during a restocking period, please be prepared to wait in your vehicle or in an organized manner outside of the store.
Thank you for remaining flexible with us during this time. We’re so happy to be able to continue to serve you.

Please note: We will be stocking our vending machines according to the following schedule:
Beef and sausages will be stocked throughout the week as they become available.
Chicken will be available in the middle of the week.
Pork and lamb will hit the machines towards the end of the week.
Meanwhile, take a look at this delightful piece in the New York Times about our Covid response!
Dear Applestone Community,
We are working quickly to stock our vending machines in Hudson and Stone Ridge all week with a selection of beef, pork, chicken, and lamb.
Please stay in your car while others shop! Only (2) people should enter the store at a time, as our space is small. Use the tape markers on the floor to determine 6 feet of distance from one another. This is incredibly important for the health and safety of our team and our shoppers. Use the hand sanitizer we have made available and make sure to wash your hands when home. Continue to avoid touching your face. Thanks in advance.
Due to our current capacity, we are unfortunately unable to promise you your favorite steak will be here when you arrive. If you happen to buy a cut that’s new to you, reach out and ask us how to cook it. We’re happy to provide cooking tips, recipes, and methods.
Keep up the good work being mindful of your neighbors — in particular, we appreciate that no one is cleaning out the machines. When we leave some for others, they do the same in return.
If you’re feeling isolated and looking to connect, tag us in photos of what you’re cooking. We always love seeing what you make and we could all use the inspiration right now.
Hang in there!

Beginning today, March 13th, our customer service windows are taking a pause as we streamline our operations in response to the unfolding COVID-19 situation.
Two of our core principles are convenience and accessibility; our retail model was specifically built to support independent shopping through vending machines. We remain dedicated to a 24/7 shopping experience, especially when our customers need it the most.
We will continue to stock our machines with fresh beef, lamb, pork, and chicken. However, as our customer service window will be closed, we will unfortunately be unable to to accept new online orders, custom orders, or fulfill requests from our freezer.
While we already follow strict USDA guidelines, we are taking extra precautions by reinforcing the following health and hygiene protocols:
We are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting our stores and vending machines, with special attention to high-contact surfaces.
Both our retail stores and processing facility receive rigorous food safety audits and this will only increase throughout the upcoming weeks.
We are installing hand sanitizer dispensers for our customers to use before and after purchasing from our vending machines.
The health of our team is also top of mind—the service window closures will help us minimize risk for our employees. All team members experiencing flu-like symptoms or who need to self-quarantine due to immune compromisation will be able to take advantage of our paid sick leave policy as well as additional time if needed. Our team is closely monitoring guidelines regarding COVID-19 and will continue to update you as this situation evolves.
We remain dedicated to providing a 24/7 shopping experience and will continue to do so through our vending machines located in Stone Ridge and Hudson. Thank you for your patronage—your trust in us means the world and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
