Community: Local Businesses Respond to Covid-19
We continue to be wowed by how our community is coming together in response to Covid-19. Local businesses, including many of our friends and colleagues, are deeply feeling the impact and are still somehow finding innovative ways to help others. We’re seeing reports of local businesses feeding community members for free, including kids now cut off from their school lunches. Others are giving away everything from sandwiches to cold sesame noodles to anyone in need. And so many of you are offering online or phone ordering and then curbside pick-up to protect employees and shoppers. We’re even seeing businesses carve out shopping hours specifically for seniors and people with compromised immune systems. Make sure to check your favorite store’s social media for the most recent information as some people are updating those more frequently than their websites. Things are evolving quickly and social media seems to be developing as the best bet for the most current information from most businesses. Here are a few examples of what we’re hearing businesses are doing. If we’ve left someone out, let us know. We want to share it here! COLUMBIA COUNTY
Chaseholm Farm
Stocking up is necessary at this moment, but we all want to be good neighbors and not take more than we need. Some families need more than others. Chasehom is offering 5 packs of ground beef for $30 as a quarantine economy buy, discounted milk ($5 for a half gallon), and the remainder of their sauerkraut stock at a discount.
Rolling Grocer 19
At the moment, only 5 people at a time are allowed in the shop and the Rolling Grocer team is looking for volunteers who are willing to deliver food to homes of people that are self-quarantining during our regular store hours. Good Fight Herb Co.
Many businesses are closed for a few weeks -- or longer -- but still offering stoop-side pick-up for orders placed on the phone or online. Place an order for all of your immune supporting needs.
Talbott & Arding
If you call ahead -- just give them an hour -- Talbott & Arding are now offering curbside pick up as well as delivery (free on orders over $100) within a 10 mile radius of Hudson.
ULSTER COUNTY
Cherries
Everyone’s favorite Stone Ridge ice cream spot is offering kids meals to school aged children for no charge from 11 to 3.
Lagusta’s Luscious Commissary
Our favorite vegan spot in New Paltz is now offering online ordering for their menu, not just the fantastic chocolate, as well as curbside pick up. Follow their Instagram for other community offerings, like when anonymous donors offer free food to people experiencing hardship right now through their genius Mitzvah Wall.
Kitchenette
This High Falls mainstay is now serving free breakfast or lunch for school kids.
High Falls Food Coop
As of now, they’re reserving the hours of 8 to 9 am weekdays and 9 am to 10 am Saturdays and Sundays for seniors and people with compromised immune systems to shop. They’re asking people who do not fall into these categories to please come back and shop later.
Rough Draft Bar & Books
The beloved Kingston bookstore is now delivering beans -- whole and ground -- and books to locals. Stay in and read to flatten the curve.
Kingston Bread Bar
The KBB team brainstormed what they might be able to do and came up with a plan for this Saturday -- a sale with local delivery of bread, coffee, beer, cider and more.
